I know its been front and center...but we all have the right to have an opinion, and I don't think this is going to make one bit of difference...seeing it on tv and making the decision to not to visit las vegas because of it are two different things...the article title ask if we think this will make a difference...I don't...if the total visitors for 2013 is greatly less than 2012 then I guess all the news coverage of the great shootout on the strip in feb. will have had an impact, and I guess I will be wrong...however I think the cost of airfare will have a bigger impact either positive or negative...whats that they say, any press is good press..i guess we will find out jimmi k !

this is not going to affect the average tourist decision to visit las vegas. first of all the average tourist will not even be fully aware of this, most of them will pay little attention to story...sure the hardcore vegas loving tourist who read vegas blogs and vegas newspapers everyday will obsess over it for a week or so, then decide they are such vegas experts that this would never happen to them...the reality is the vegas lovers will not let an isolated incident like this keep them away...vegas is what it is, and its what ever you want it to be...the real victims here are the cab driver and the passenger, as tragic as this is, the odds of this happening again are remote and those are odds that vegas lovers will be willing to take...vegas will always have an element of danger to it...but the magic and allure will always win out...sure a few people may change their plans to visit vegas, maybe...but out of 40 million visitors their absence will not even be a speck to be reckoned with...

they always seem to be able to get the money they need for expansion...
the interest rates they pay are so high that i guess there is always someone willing to take a chance...
the people loaning the money have to be playing with someone elses money...hedge or pension funds...
our country must have people with access to endless amounts of funds...i read recently that Harvard has 30 billion dollars in their endowment fund, this is an example of a business that has to invest some of that money somewhere...and thats just one institution...

i hope they succeed but that is a difficult location in my opinion.

you know someone has a lot of disposable funds to try a concept like that.

tom d....while i respect your opinion, its unlikely that space will remain empty. its center strip and too close to the strip to be ignored. if it were at the rear of the property maybe it could just be removed, but its not. they will find another partner, or find the money somewhere.
as far as city center having to much concrete being too far off the strip, and not a theme property, the issues that keep getting brought up, really do not matter at this point. its there, it cost billions and what ever can be done to make it more appealing should be done.
the property in itself is a very nice property, so far, its well maintained, the staff are customer oriented and for now its a good value. while not my favorite place to stay its just not that bad. if the right deal comes along i will stay there again.
sometimes you have to invest more money to fix a problem. its easy to armchair say what you would have done differently, im an expert at that, ive never been wrong when saying i wouldnt have done what those in charge did when something failed. most of the decisions made about the vegas strip are risky, some work some dont...steve wynn got critisized for building the mirage, the first strip themed resort, that worked out pretty well...and his new hotels dont look much different from center city..do they?
anyway it gives us something to talk about!

i think an entertainment, food, shopping district would be the best use of the space and for drawing people in to center city. like it or not aria is a nice property. the one thing i didnt like about staying there was the long boring walk to get anywhere else. if you were walking past shopping, food or clubs it would not be so bad. the shopping should be nothing like crystals, that place missed the mark in a big way.
i hope they can get this project completed quickly it seemed like it took for ever for cc to be built.

i have owned a business for over 35 years and i can assure that feeling will never go away. no matter how successful you are there is always the chance it could all end tomorrow. there are plenty of examples of that happening. a shift in buying habits, a change in the economy, fear of a change in the economy, and many other factors can and do affect business.
i am friends with many business owners and it is universally accepted that it could all end tomorrow. why do we do it, i guess we think we can beat the odds, maybe its the ultiment form of gambling, i risk it all every day, im betting i will make more money than my expenses are. and i do this every day, every week, every year.
all successful business owners work more hours than the average employee, those who dont, eventually fail. its just the way it is, not everyone is cut out for this.....but dont you think for one minute that we all fear having no business tomorrow, even when we know thats unlikely...."what if no one comes through the door tomorrow" this is a small business owners biggest fear, and it never leaves you!

my friends and i ate there not to long ago because of the high ratings it always seems to have.. being well dressed and heading for a nice restaurant in circus circus seemed like walking through a 3rd world country...having not been there in 10 years i was taken back by the facility and the crowd. be sure to take your knife to cut through the thick smoke as you walk past the 100 lb.over weight muffin top women in tube tops screaming at dirty little kids bouncing all around them and their eddie (clark griswalds brother in law) like fathers chain smoking.

once in the steak house one of the first things you notice is the woodsy dark interior, maybe worn a little more that one would have expected. the waiters and staff seemed older, i guess either they have been there along time or thats just where older workers end up, not sure which.

seems like we all got some kind of steak and the usual trimmings. ordered my steak med. rare, it came out med. well, but after a long wait to get our food i just didnt have the time to send it back.
the trimmings were as expected. it was a middle of the road meal, better than some but not the top...

i cant decide if the location in a worn out hotel in a worn out facility with worn out staff made the whole night less desirable or not.

the remarkable thing is that its been in business for so long in that location selling a product that most of the guest at that hotel probably cannot afford, or are to cheap to want eat there. so my hats off to their long term success and i hope they last many more years , but i honestly think a top 5 rating is not correct...not by a long shot...

just to be fair i didnt think STK in cosmo was any better...better atmosphere but not any better food..

there are many great places to get a steak in las vegas such as Cut in Palazzo... its very good but does cost twice as much...

so maybe you really do get what you pay for....
