The Las Vegas visitor total for January was about 28% below what it was during the same month in 2019, according to a report by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Just under 2.5 million people visited Las Vegas in January, according to the bureau, which means that the city still has a long way to go to catch up to pre-pandemic tourism levels.

On the convention side, more than 300,000 attended trade shows in Las Vegas last month, a steep increase from when the industry was nearly completely closed down in early 2021.

Still, the figure lags the pre-pandemic January 2019 total by more than 55%.

January’s convention attendee number was bolstered by the fact that two of the most popular trade shows on the Las Vegas calendar — CES and the World of Concrete show — took place last month.

Close to 80,000 attended those two events. During a normal year, CES attracts close to 170,000 visitors by itself.

Hotel occupancy in Las Vegas came in at about 59% in January, down from 84% during the same month in 2019, but up about 30% from January 2021, according to the report.

Average daily hotel room rates for rooms along the Strip and in downtown Las Vegas were $145 last month, down only 7% from January 2019.
