More than 300 M Resort employees will be permanently laid off this month, according to a letter from the Henderson casino property’s general manager to state employment officials.

The letter, sent late last month by Hussain Mahrous to Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation officials, said 352 M Resort employees will be let go by Aug. 29.

The layoffs, like others in Southern Nevada this year, were blamed on the chilling effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the casino business.

“These significant drags on our business will likely continue for the foreseeable future,” the letter said.

M Resort is owned by Penn National Gaming, which also owns the Tropicana. Also in July, Tropicana officials alerted the jobless office that more than 600 workers would be permanently laid off in October.
