Wed, Jan 9, 2019 (2:18 p.m.)

Gov. Steve Sisolak announced today the appointment of Sandra Douglass Morgan as the next chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Morgan, a member of the state Gaming Commission, will replace Becky Harris, whose term expires Jan. 27, officials said.

The board is responsible for regulating all aspects of Nevada’s gaming industry.

“Sandra’s extensive experience and record of leadership shows that she is not only qualified to chair the Nevada Gaming Control Board, but that she will excel at it as well,” Sisolak said in a statement.

Morgan, a native of Las Vegas, is director of external affairs for AT&T Services Inc. for Southern Nevada and is responsible for managing AT&T’s legislative and community affairs activities.

Previously, Morgan served as a litigation attorney for one of the world’s largest gaming companies, before serving as the North Las Vegas city attorney. She was the first African-American city attorney in the state.

Sisolak also thanked Harris for her service. In his statement, he recognized “the incredible milestone her tenure marked as the first woman chair of the board, as well as her commitment to combatting sexual harassment and discrimination in Nevada’s gaming industry.”
