Gary Gould is the owner of Solus Sustainable Hydration, a service that delivers regionally sourced spring water — still or sparkling — that’s bottled in reusable glass bottles. The company delivers to restaurants such as Buddy V’s, Honey Salt and Border Grill, and is working on expanding into the residential sector, beginning in the Anthem and Green Valley areas. Gould shared with us his company's environmental mission and plans to expand.

What is your mission?

We strive to provide a solution that is not vendor-driven but to act as a partner in meeting their water needs in an inventive way that reduces impact on the environment.

Solus was conceived out of the need to reduce plastics’ negative influence on the environment, including the impact of waste disposal, carbon footprint and most importantly, the effect of plastics on humans and animals to micro-plastic in our food chain.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

We know of no other closed-loop system for bottled water, in Las Vegas or nationally. From the production of the product through usage and collection to re-usage of the product packaging, our program creates no waste.

In addition, we do not use filtered municipal water sources or ship our water thousands of miles, which has a significant environmental impact. Instead, we search to find the best spring water available in close proximity to our plants, decreasing our carbon footprint while serving clean spring water. We also have the ability to brand the bottling program to each specific client, giving them the choice of a Solus-branded bottle or using their own brand on the bottle.

Are there plans to expand?

We are focused on the Las Vegas market currently. We’ve been approached to provide our program to several additional markets, including Southern and Northern California, Hawaii and Orlando, Fla. We are in the process of completing the business modeling to evaluate expansion into these areas and others.

What is the best part about doing business in Las Vegas?

We love the energy and the entrepreneurial spirt. It’s an amazing community of residents and hospitality.

What challenges have you faced launching your new business venture?

One of our largest areas of growth is within the hospitality industry, and our prospects already have water product that are the accepted norms. They also have a hundred other pressing problems related to managing their business. This sometimes makes it difficult to gain focus.

That being said, the common response we get from our prospects and others is that this is a fantastic idea. That is what motivates our efforts. Old is new again — the milkman approach to water.
